Gran Canaria´s subtropical climate is one of the best in the world. In summertime it does not get too hot thanks to the relatively cool Atlantic ocean and the trade winds which blow from the north and in wintertime is does not get cold thanks to its proximity to the equator. In summer daytime temperatures average 25 to 30 degree celsius and in winter they range between 20 and 25 degree celsius. Only during winter there are a couple of days with rain. And on the south coast every year they report more than 300 days of bright sunshine.

Gran Canaria ist the island with the second largest amount of natural beaches of the archipelago. The most famous are Maspalomas / Playa del Inglés which continues all the way to San Agustín and Las Canteras in the island´s capital Las Palmas which is protected by a natural reef. In the south there are also the artificial beaches of Playa de Amadores, Playa de Puerto Rico, Anfi del Mar and Playa de Mogán.
The nice thing about Canaria is its stark contrasts. If you plan a trip to the inside of the island you can discover authentic and beautiful village with Canarian culture and a fascinating landscape with impressive valleys, water deposits, dry areas and forest areas. Everything within a very short driving distance.

Besides the tasty Canarian fish and seafood plates and their famous potatoes with the delicious “Mojo” – Sauce you can enjoy many different tastes from all over the world and very high class restaurants especially in the southern tourist area of the island.
The island offers a large variety of culture with classic and contemporary music in Las Palmas’ Alfredo Kraus centre and modern music events in different parts of island. More popular are the popular festivities all over the island in every village and throughout the year. The high light is the Carnival season which usually starts in Februar and continues until the beginning of April.

The large majority of the Canarian population (total 859.835 in 2018) lives on the north side of the island. Here you can find the real Canarian culture and lifestyle. Its capital Las Palmas is the largest city in the Canarian archipelago with 378.517 inhabitants and it offers everything a large city in Spain can offer.
The south of the island with its tourist areas of Maspalomas and Mogán is a different world and is a mixture of tourists, second home owners and permanent residents from all over the world. Also Canarians themselves like to spend their spare time at the sunny side of the island (as the northern area is often cloudy due to the trade winds). The result is a very international multicultural environment. In winter time you´ll find more people from European countries and during the summer months many Canarian like to spend their time here.
